Notes: Jackpot when your dog has any kind of breakthrough - even if it's by accident!



Retrieve Part 2



Session one: Bring out the object that you want your dog to retrieve. Place it 4 to 6 ft from the dog and ask them to
fetch. When your dog brings the object to you, ask them to sit. Mark and reward for sitting to front on the retrieve.



Session two: Bring out the object that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session one. Place
it 4 to 6 ft from the dog and ask them to fetch. When your dog brings the object to you, mark and reward for sitting to
front on the retrieve without prompting.



Session three: Bring out two objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session two (with
each object). Place or toss both objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog (about 1 ft apart) and ask the dog to fetch. Using your
duration praise, mark and reward when the second object is retrieved with a sit to front.



Session four: Bring out three objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session two with
each object. Place or toss the objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog about 1 ft apart in a semi-circle and ask the dog to fetch.
Use your out word when the dog sits to front and mark and reward for the final product behavior.



Put Your Toys Away

Session five: Bring out four objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session two with
each object. Then, do a couple of repetitions of Session four. Place or toss the objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog about 1
ft apart in a semi-circle and ask the dog to fetch. When your dog retrieves the first toy and brings it to you, have your
toy box at your feet. Give your dog the out command and mark and reward if the toy falls in the toy box. Jackpot
success! Replace the toy if your dog does not succeed in getting the toy in the box. Repeat the exercise using your
variable schedule of reinforcers with the rest of the toys.



Session six: Bring out four objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session four with
each object. Place or toss the objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog about 1 ft apart in a semi-circle and ask the dog to fetch.
When your dog retrieves the first toy and brings it to you, have your toy box at your feet. Give your dog the out
command and mark and reward if the toy falls in the toy box. Replace the toy if your dog does not succeed in getting

Session nine: Bring out four objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session seven.
Place or toss the objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog about 1 ft apart in a semi-circle and ask the dog to fetch. Move the toy
box about 2 ft away from you. When the dog retrieves say "Put your toys away." Mark and reward if the dog drops the
toy in the toy box. Jackpot success! Replace the toy if your dog does not succeed in getting the toy in the box. Repeat
the exercise using your variable schedule of reinforcers with the rest of the toys. Experiment with moving the box...... a
little to the left, a little to the right.



Session ten: Bring out four objects that you want your dog to retrieve. Do a couple of repetitions of Session seven.
Place or toss the objects 4 to 6 ft from the dog about 1 ft apart in a semi-circle and ask the dog to fetch. Move the toy
box about 3 or 4 ft away from you. When the dog retrieves say "Put your toys away." Mark and reward if the dog drops
the toy in the toy box. Replace the toy if your dog does not succeed in getting the toy in the box. Repeat the exercise
using your variable schedule of reinforcers with the rest of the toys. Experiment with moving the box...... a little to the
left, a little to the right. Jackpot success!
