Auto-Sit:
Prerequisites: Foundation, Heel, Sit
Note: The auto-sit is an intense obedience exercise for your dog. Do not attempt without
instruction.
Just as you’ve been correcting each time the dog doesn’t sit with the verbal command, you are now ‘upping’ the
expectation to an auto-sit.
As you are heeling, come to a stop and expect the sit to happen. Be sure to give the dog ENOUGH TIME to sit. If
it doesn’t, correct as if you’d given the sit command.
Be sure you’re still sliding down the leash and collecting it, in preparation for a sit correction as needed. Your dog
will notice this if it’s paying attention, and will sit accordingly.
Obviously, you will still have occasions when you need to give the verbal sit command - specifically, when you're
not practicing formal heeling and automatic sitting.
