Recall III
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience, Recall I & II, Distraction- & Distance-proofed stays
Equipment: 15 or 50 foot leash
1. Place your dog in a sit & wait, and move off to some distance. Give the dog’s name, then “come" command.
2. DO NOT TUG from a distance! If the dog doesn’t come, stops half way, passes by you,
or wanders off:
3. GO TO THE DOG – quickly, silently, and with purpose in your stride.
4. Grasp the leash no more than 12 inches from the snap, and bring the dog VERY RAPIDLY back to where you
called him from.
7. Praise verbally as the dog begins to come. When the dog gets to you, give the sit and
praise.
8. Repeat this exercise a minimum of 20 times per session.
Goal: At the end of this week, the dog should be coming to you automatically. Practice
this exercise until you have 10 recalls in a row, without ever having to go get the dog.
