Recall III
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience, Recall I & II, Distraction- & Distance-proofed stays
Equipment: 15 or 50 foot leash
1. With your dog on its 15 or 50 ft. leash, say the dog’s name, then “come.”
2. DO NOT TUG from a distance! If the dog doesn’t come, stops half way, passes by you,
or wanders off:
3. GO TO THE DOG – quickly, silently, and with purpose in your stride.
4. Grasp the leash no more than 12 inches from the snap, and lead the dog quickly back to where you called him
from.
7. Praise verbally as the dog begins to come. When the dog gets to you, give the sit and
praise. Require the dog to finish to heel.
8. Repeat this exercise a minimum of 10 times per session.
Goal: At the end of this week, the dog should be coming to you automatically. Practice
this exercise until you have 10 recalls in a row, without ever having to go get the dog.
