RECALL V - RECALL IX
Prerequisites:  Basic & Advanced Obedience, Recall IV


Recall V

Equipment:  50 foot leash

If your dog is coming automatically 7 times out of 10, cut your leash to 40 ft.
long.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI” (with distractions).

Goal:  The dog should continue to come immediately without correction a minimum of 7 times out of 10.




Recall VI

Equipment:  40 to 30 to 20 ft. leash

Days One & Two:

If your dog is coming without correction 70% of the time, cut the leash to 30 feet long.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction 8 or 9 times out of 10.

Days Three to Five:

If your dog is coming without correction 8 times out of 10, cut the leash to 20 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction, at least 9 times out of 10.




Recall VII

Equipment:  20 to 15 to 10 ft. leash

Days One & Two:

If your dog is responding without corrections, cut the leash to 15 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction, 100% of the time.

Days Three to Five:

If your dog is coming 100% of the time without correction, cut the leash to 10 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, for any reason, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction, 100% of the time.




Recall VIII

Equipment:  10 to 5 to 3 ft. leash

Days One & Two:

If your dog is coming 100% of the time without correction, cut the leash to 5 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction, 100% of the time.

Days Three to Five:

If your dog is coming 100% of the time without correction, cut the leash to 3 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog should be responding immediately, without correction, 100% of the time.




Recall IX

Equipment:  3 to 1 ft. leash

If your dog is coming 100% of the time without correction, cut the leash to 3 feet.

Practice the recall exactly as you did in “Recall VI.”

If the dog fails to come immediately at ANY time, go back to the 50 ft. leash for 5 days.

Goal:  The dog is now responding immediately, without correction, 100% of the time ON A ONE FOOT LONG TAB.

CONGRATULATIONS!  You now have a dog that will Recall 100% of the time on a one foot tab, or ‘traffic leash.’  
This should suffice in most areas as a ‘leash’ as long as the dog is 100% responsive to your voice commands.
