"Leave it" Exercise Polishing
Think your dog is a 'pro' at the "leave it" command? Let's find out with these polishing exercises.
Part One:
1. With your dog in its leash and training collar - put your dog in a sit, and pretend to 'nibble' a yummy treat, or have his favorite toy.
2. Give your dog the "leave it" command and lower the treat or toy to the floor.
3. If your dog goes for it, give the "ah-ah!" & leash correction.
4. Do NOT let your dog snatch the treat faster than you can correct.
5. If your dog leaves the temptation alone, give generous praise.
6. Sometimes release him to have the temptation - other times, pick it back up and go on about your business.
Part Two:
1. With your dog on its leash and collar, put your dog in a sit or down.
2. Give your dog the "leave it" command and see if you can place an entire ring of treats or toys around your
dog!
3. If your dog goes for any of the temptations, give the "ah-ah!" & leash correction.
4. Do NOT let your dog snatch the treat faster than you can correct.
5. If your dog leaves the temptations alone, give generous praise.
6. Sometimes release him to have one or two of the treats, or play with the toys - other times, pick them back up and go on about your business.
